Who is Zabava Putyatichna?
Zabava Putyatichna is the niece of the Prince of Kyiv and a heroine of the byliny, old heroic songs about the bogatyrs of Kyiv. Today’s viewers know her from the Melnitsa studio cartoon “Dobrynya Nikitich and Zmey Gorynych.” This page is about that screen version.
Zabava’s kidnapping sends the hero Dobrynya and his young companion Yelisey off on their journey. This page describes the version in the Melnitsa cartoon. The heroine of the old songs and the modern cartoon heroine are not the same, so check facts about their relatives and adventures against a specific work.

Plan an errand for the team of knights
Our own activity ideas inspired by the story — for drawing, toys and telling stories aloud.
- Invent a peaceful errand for the team of knights: deliver an invitation to a faraway town or find the road to a festival. What funny mix-ups will happen along the way?
- Draw a letter from a heroine who wants to explain her plans herself. The other characters read it first, then decide what help she really needs.
Talk about it together: How will the helpers figure out what the heroine herself wants? What will she write to them in her letter?
Let’s play!
A palace story with your own script
In My Little Princess: Castle, your child can make up a story about a letter, guests or getting ready for a party. Give roles to the characters available and decide what the team needs to find out before the journey begins. For play at home, toys can take the same roles.
We picked these apps for the activity they offer. We have not confirmed that this heroine appears in them.
